Registration for Lobby Day is now open! The annual event provides grassroots support for NAMI Washington’s legislative agenda which focuses on a few of the hundreds of mental health bills and budgets under consideration. Lobby Day provides an opportunity for members and supporters to share their stories with their legislators and ask for their support of NAMI’s legislative priorities. In previous years, Lobby Day has been a huge success thanks to advocates like you whose involvement is critical in achieving our goals. We are certain that with your participation, we can once again celebrate a major success.
This year, a reception will be hosted at the governor’s mansion; access is limited to 200 people and is determined on a first come, first serve basis. You will be asked if you wish to attend as a part of the registration process. Those attending the reception will be required to show photo ID that matches the name you registered as. That being said, you will need to register using the name (no nicknames) that is displayed on your identification.
9:00 – 10:30 AM: Welcome, Legislative Issues Update, and Advocacy Skills Workshop
10:45- 4:00 PM: Legislative Visits
5:30 – 7:30 PM: Reception at the governor’s mansion! (Limited to 200)
We recognize that transportation may be a barrier for some folks who wish to participate. We will be addressing this concern by coordinating carpooling for anyone that is interested. If you would like us to coordinate your transportation for this event, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Some folks will wish to spend the night in Olympia, considering Lobby Day is an all-day event and requires distant travelling for many participants. NAMI Washington has reserved rooms at the Hotel RL for both Sunday and Monday. To make a reservation please call Hotel RL at 360-943-4000 and let them know you want to book from the NAMI Washington block of rooms. The cost of the room will be your responsibility.
Meeting with legislators and asking them for their support can seem like an intimidating task for those with little or no experience. With a little bit of training, however, anyone can do it. NAMI Pierce County is hosting a NAMI Smarts advocacy training session prior to Lobby Day for anyone who would like to prepare ahead of time. This training program will give participants the skills to tell a compelling story and make an “ask” in 90 seconds, as well as, offer additional tools for successful legislative advocacy. Details for this training program are as follows:
Date/Time: Saturday, February 1st 10:00AM – 12:30PM
